| Paolo Nutini (Best In British Music Show with Tara O.) |
Scotland’s Paolo Nutini’s 2M selling 2006 CD “These Streets” released pop hits that brought instant attention with singles like Last Request, Jennie don’t be hasty, and New Shoes
Yet– it’s his 180 degree musical shift for his 2009 #1 album in UK “Sunny Side Up”, that’s really cathing listener attention and catching the music world off guard, with its ragtime/jazz/folk-soul influences (play coming up easy) – it’s a return to the olden days – not what you’d expect from a 22 year old!!
He’s booked through 2009 for shows and festivals – like the one at Bluesfest in Ottawa, Canada, where I interviewed him. He’d just flown in so he starts off a bit quiet from the jetlag – but once the interview gets going, he comes ino his own – chatty and friendly – with a great sense of humour
On the serious side of this intervew, we talk about SSU and his production responsibities, what an important figure in his life would say about him now, and Ahmet Ertegun (co founder of his Atlantic records lable). … then – being the funny storyteller he is, things to a bit awry as he recounts an experience at Canada’s osheaga festival, and the REAL influence behind his single from the new CD (hint: it has to do with hip hop artist Fifty Cent!).
