| Osheaga 2009 |
BACKGROUND (and 1min. intro to the interview):
It’s taken over 10 yrs and more than 4 LPs, but Elbow, made up of lead singer/songwriter Guy Garvey, brothers Mark & Craig Potter, Pete Turner and Richard Jupp, is finally getting the recognition they deserve.
Case in point – hardly a few seconds into our interview at Canada’s Osheaga Festival with bassist Pete, you hear Jesse Hughes (Eagles of Death Metal) stroll by showering compliments.
Once underway, we talk Mercury Prize – this year’s noms, their 2008 win for Seldom Seen Kid & what life’s like since – including a bit of increased popularity in Canada.
We also cover off label woes & transitions, and their fav recording studio. But marketing, gear & technology aside – what it is that went on behind the scenes — those life experiences for the band — that made Seldom Seen Kid what it is?
…and along the way we get the low-down on Pete’s impression of Canada and a certain beverage (have to say I agree with him!), what’s next for Elbow, his hometown music scene, and the friendly competition goin on with fellow mancs Doves.
